The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) have recently jointed hands to give a boost to the development of internationalized domain names (IDNs) in Arabic according to a memorandum of understanding signed between both parties. |

Egyptian Minister of Transport to Inaugurate UN-ESCWA Expert Group Meeting on International Multimodal Transport |
Egyptian Minister of Transport Mohammad Mansour will be inaugurating the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on International Multimodal Transport in the Western Asia region organized by UN-ESCWA (the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia) on 4-6 September 2007 at the Triumph Hotel, Heliopolis, Cairo. The three-day meeting, which will open at 9:30 am on Tuesday, is intended to discuss the second draft of a proposed Agreement on International Multimodal Transport of Goods in the Arab Mashreq. |

Amman to Host the Launching of the National Campaign On Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance |

Cairo to Host UN-ESCWA Preparatory Meeting |
The Egyptian capital, Cairo, is to host a preparatory meeting for UN-ESCWA (UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia), on the “Establishment of a Technical Cooperation Knowledge Sharing Network”, organized by the Commission’s Programme Planning and Technical Cooperation Division (PPTCD), between 28 and 30 October at Hilton Ramses Hotel, Cairo. The meeting will be attended by focal points concerned with technical cooperation programs in member countries, as well as UN-ESCWA PPTCD experts and employees. |

Executive Secretary Stresses Importance |
UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary, Mr. Bader Aldafa stressed today the importance of promoting cooperation among developing countries, as well as the role that public-private partnership could play on this level. – In collaboration with the UN Statistics Department, (UNSD), UN-ESCWA (Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia) is organizing a workshop on “Data Compilation and Application of Methodological Concepts”, at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Amman, Jordan between 28 October and 2 November 2007. The workshop, which will open on Sunday 28 October at 09:00 am, is geared towards updating the capabilities of officers in the implementation of the concepts and definitions in collecting, processing and disseminating international merchandize trade statistics. |
