Under the auspices of Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) is holding its 24th Ministerial Session at the UN House, Beirut, on 10 and 11 May 2006. The Ministerial Session is the main governing body of the Commission, which decides on its policy. |

ICT Policy Makers to Attend UNESCWA Workshop Tuesday |
Policy-makers from governmental institutions in charge of ICT policy development, particularly from least developed and post-conflict countries in the region, will attend a Workshop on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy Making in UNESCWA Member Countries. Organized by UNESCWA in coordination with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the workshop will last from 2 to 4 May 2006, at the UN House, Beirut. |

Their visit begins with a meeting with UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy followed by a press conference to launch the musical concert they plan to hold at the UNESCO Palace as part of the side events of the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session. |

Tallawy was speaking to the contestants of Star Academy 2006 who visited the UN House ahead of a music concert they will be holding at 8:00pm Tuesday at the UNESCO Palace, Beirut, as part of the cultural events organized on the sidelines of the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session in Beirut from 8 to 11 May 2006. |

Participants in the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session are due to discuss Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the UNESCWA Region based on a report prepared by UNESCWA in 2005 with the collaboration of several United Nations agencies in the region. The report was prepared in order to facilitate the review of follow-up action by policymakers aimed at achieving the MDGs by 2015. |
