11 December 2014	UNESCWA Addresses Arab Decision Makers on the Economy of Globalization and Regional Integration	The fourth issue of the UNESCWA “Annual Review of Developments in Globalization and Regional Integration in the Countries of the UNESCWA Region, 2005” is due to be launched on Wednesday 1 March 2006, at 11am in the UN-House, Beirut. This flagship publication analyses the degree to which the Arab economy is integrated into the world economy and the extent of economic integration between Arab countries. It targets decision makers in UNESCWA member and other Arab countries, in addition to researchers, academics and others interested in the economy of globalization and regional integration.
11 December 2014	Scientific and Technological Development and Technological Innovation Committee to Meet Monday	The Third Meeting of the UNESCWA Consultative Committee on Scientific and Technological Development and Technological Innovation (ESTIC) is due to take place on 6 and 7 March 2006 at the Holiday Inn Dunes Hotel (Verdun) in Beirut. A major focus of this meeting will be the establishment of the ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC).
11 December 2014	UNESCWA Committee Mulls Technology Center	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said Monday member countries really need a regional institution that works toward increasing demand for technology and investing it better in socio-economic development. Tallawy was speaking at the opening of the Third Meeting of the UNESCWA Consultative Committee on Scientific and Technological Development and Technological Innovation (ESTIC) at the Holiday Inn Dunes Hotel (Verdun) in Beirut. A major focus of this meeting is the establishment of the ESCWA Technology Center (ETC).
11 December 2014	Tallawy Guest of Honour at 5th Middle East Achievement Awards	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said the determination of Arab women led to the achievement of a series of measures related to the progress of women and their empowerment in the Arab world. Tallawy was speaking at a ceremony held under her aegis on the occasion of International Women’s Day and organized by the Middle East Achievement Awards Institute at Burj Al Arab, Dubai, last night. The ceremony was attended by a host of political, diplomatic, economic, and cultural figures who came together to honor 5 prominent Arab women.
11 December 2014	Participation of Women in Public Life Main Focus of Tallawy Trip to UK	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy is slated to be the keynote speaker at a conference on the Political Participation of Muslim Women in the UK and Abroad. The two-day event is co-hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group at the British Houses of Parliament and the Barrow Cadbury Trust at the House of Commons on 21 and 22 March 2006.
11 December 2014	Oman Hosts UNESCWA Regional Workshop on Trade and Environment Capacity Building	Under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Amer Al-Rawas, Omani Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources, UNESCWA is organizing a “Regional Workshop on Trade and Environment Capacity Building” in cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the United Nations Environment Program / Regional Office for Western Asia (UNEP/ROWA). The three-day workshop in Muscat, Oman, is scheduled to begin on 25 March 2006 at the Faculty Club Hall in Sultan Qaboos University.
11 December 2014	On World Water Day: UNESCWA Says Region Facing Dangerous Strategic Challenge	The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA), one of the regional bodies of the UN, said Western Asia is facing a dangerous strategic challenge in relation to the water situation given that the origin of most water in the region lies outside it. This statement came in an UNESCWA statement on the occasion of World Water Day, 22 March 2006.

11 December 2014	Tallawy Meets with Aboul Gheit	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy met in Khartoum today with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Aboul Gheit. Discussions focused on the regional situation, what UNESCWA is providing for Palestine and Iraq, and Arab regional integration. Tallawy is in the Sudanese capital to attend the Arab Summit on 28 and 29 March 2006 as part of the United Nations delegation.
