Arab Experts and Officials To Discuss Future Role of UNESCWA |
In a significant step coming at a critical time in the history of the region, Arab officials and highly skilled experts and intellectuals will gather at UNESCWA to participate in a meeting on the “Role of UNESCWA in Servicing its Member States, the Next Five Years.” The meeting, which will bring together prominent officials and academics, will continue until Wednesday, 25 January 2006. |

Towards an Integrated Knowledge Society in the Arab Countries |
UNESCWA has published a study titled “Towards an Integrated Knowledge Society in the Arab Countries: Strategies for Implementation Modalities.” It aims at providing a framework and guidelines for the design, development and implementation of national strategies towards the realization and development of a knowledge society and a knowledge-based economy in the Arab countries. It analyses implementation concerns related to socio-economic initiatives, and builds an agenda for implementation modalities related to the development and sustenance of knowledge economies. |

UNESCWA to Sign ICT Agreement |
In the course of promoting and building an inclusive information society in Western Asia, the UNESCWA and the Union of Arab Information and Communication Technology Associations (IJMA3) agreed to initiate collaboration in developing and implementing specific activities aimed at facilitating the dissemination of information and communication technology (ICT) and increasing knowledge sharing, with special emphasis on creating employment and alleviating poverty. To this end, both parties will sign a Letter of Understanding (LoU) tomorrow at 11am at the UN House, Beirut. |
