ESCWA continued on Tuesday 13 December 2016 the works of its 29th Session at the Sheraton Grand hotel in Doha, Qatar, where discussions revolved around Justice for the Palestinian people after fifty years of Israeli occupation.

As part of its ministerial 29th Session, ESCWA held on 14 December 2016 a ministerial discussion panel on the “Challenges Facing the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the National Level” with the participation of Arab ministers and prominent figures.
 

The EGM is organized under the strategic framework of UNESCWA on strengthening the capacity of Governments of the Member States on mainstreaming the energy-related SDGs and Paris Agreement into their national development plans.
 The EGM aims to:
1- Assist member countries monitor the development and implementation of sustainable energy efforts at the national level, taking into account the indicators required by the Statistics Committee of the United Nations in order to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The UN-ESCWA Statistical Committee at its eleventh session, Amman, 4-5 February 2015 asked ESCWA to and its member countries to revive the Task Force on Population and Housing in the Arab countries. The Committee asked ESCWA to coordinate the Task Force activities in cooperation with international and regional related organizations to assist the Arab countries to implement their population census during the period 2015-2024.
