On 14 November 2016, President of the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan (RSS) and of ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) Board of Governors Princess Sumaya bint Al Hassan headed the 6th Meeting of the Board, which includes representatives of 16 Arab States, to discuss and adopt ETC 2017 work plan. The meeting was held in Amman, Jordan.

In her opening speech, Princess Sumayya underlined the importance of scientific research in comprehensive and sustainable human development, and its clear and efficient impact on solving economic, development, and even political issues.

Under the auspices of Jordan Minister for Planning and International Cooperation, the ESCWA Technology Centre organized a meeting entitled “National Capacities in Science and Technology at the Service of National Priorities and the Implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals,” on 26 September in Amman. The meeting was held in cooperation with the Higher Council for Science and Technology, and with the participation of the UN Country Team for SDGs. It was attended by representatives of 53 institutions from the private and public sectors, and the civil society.

ESCWA, in partnership with the Institute for Women's Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at the Lebanese American University, ABAAD Resource Centre for Gender Equality and UN-Women Regional Office for Arab States, organized a series of activities and events to commemorate the 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence for the year 2016.
