4 July 2016	Preparation for the Sudan Housing and Population Census	In the framework of the ESCWA technical cooperation with member countries, and at the request of the Republic of Sudan, the regional commission held on 1 and 2 June 2016 in Khartoum a consultative workshop on the use of technology for the general Population and Housing Census 2018, and relayed the experience of Jordan in the use of technology along the phases of the census. Participants in the census were the ESCWA delegation, along with a delegation from the Jordanian Department of Statistics and the firm that carried on the census in Jordan.
11 July 2016	Creativity, Innovation and Competitiveness on the Agenda of ESCWA	The Amman based ESCWA Technology Centre participated in organizing the “Arab Conference for Creativity, Innovation and Competitiveness,” held by the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) and the Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (CMRDI) on 24 and 25 May 2016 in Cairo. ESCWA Technology Centre’s National Officer Nael AlMulki delivered a keynote address in the opening of the Conference and participated as rapporteur in the third working session.
11 July 2016	ICT at the Service of Education, Healthcare and Agriculture	On 31 May and 1 June 2016, Amman hosted “The 3rd International Workshop on Applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education, Healthcare and Agriculture”, which was held at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), the largest applied research institution Jordan. The Workshop was jointly organized by ESCWA, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Inter-Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT), in cooperation with RSS.
11 July 2016	ESCWA Marks World Day to Combat Desertification 2016	On the occasion of the 2016 World Day to Combat Desertification, regional and international experts gathered on 20 June in a web conference organized by ESCWA to highlight the importance of striving towards Land Degradation Neutrality through the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “Protect Earth, Restore Land, Engage People” was the theme of this year’s global event.
11 July 2016	ESCWA and IRU Sign MoU on Transport and Trade Facilitation	On 28 June 2016, ESCWA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in transport and trade-related issues in the Arab region with the International Road Union (IRU). Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Integration Division Mohamed El Hacene represented the Commission in the ceremony, while IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto signed on behalf of the Union.

12 July 2016	Negotiations of Bilateral Investment Treaties	In collaboration with the Ministry of Investment in the Republic of Tunisia ESCWA held a National Workshop on negotiations of bilateral investment agreements during the period 1-5 April 2013.
12 July 2016	Drafting Bilateral Investment Treaties	ESCWA organized a national workshop on drafting of bilateral investment agreements during the period 11-15 March 2013 in Beirut, Lebanon. The purpose of this workshop was to familiarize participants from various government agencies and institutions that play a role in the negotiation of bilateral investment agreements, on how to draft various items contained in the bilateral investment agreements, drafting techniques of treaties, and understand the basic concepts in the formulation of international conventions relating to investment.
12 July 2016	Drafting Bilateral Investment Agreements	ESCWA organized, in collaboration of the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation in Tunisia, a national workshop on drafting bilateral investment agreements during the period 30 September-04 October 2013.
