The Compendium of Environment Statistics in the Arab Region 2014-2015 aims to disseminate environmental data and indicators on member States of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). It provides an overview on environmental issues of relevance to the region, and detailed statistical tables and charts on freshwater resources, fisheries, biodiversity, air pollution and climate change, energy consumption, waste management, and Goal 7 of the Millennium Development Goals, which focuses on ensuring environmental sustainability.

Beirut, 12 January 2016 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)--The 2015 Situation Report on International Migration entitled “Migration, Displacement and Development in a Changing Arab Region” will be jointly launched by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Thursday January the 14th 2016, at 10:00 am, at the UN House, Beirut.

In the midst of the social, economic and environmental concerns, and the international community's efforts with all its components and organizations to achieve sustainable development, energy security in all its aspects, concepts, objectives and requirements, has become the focus of the regional efforts. In this context, this study is designed to examine the issue of energy security from different angles to reflect the views of the consumer, the producer and the international community. Ensuring consumer access to energy services safely, economically, socially and environmentally requires efficient management of natural resources and the use of their financial revenues in the sustainable development process to ensure the continued extraction and sustainable use of these resources.
