Exchange Visit of Environmental Knowledge between Palestine and Tunisia under the Patronage of ESCWA Concludes with MoU |
Under the patronage of ESCWA, a senior delegation from the Palestinian Ministry of Environmental Affairs visited the Tunisian Ministry of Environment from 22 to 26 April 2013, to have an insight on the Tunisian approach to environmental management and exchange information in this area. The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between both ministries at the headquarters of the Tunisian Ministry of Environment-Tunis, in the presence of ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division Director Roula Majdalani. |

Arab Implementation Meeting Concludes with “Dubai Document” |
Dubai hosted the deliberations on the sustainable development agenda in the Arab region, through the "Regional Arab Implementation Meeting" (RIM), held on 29 and 30 May at the Dubai Police Academy. ESCWA had organized the meeting in partnership with the League of Arab States (LAS), the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Environment and Water, the UN Environment Program/Regional Office of Western Asia (UNEP/ROWA), and the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment. |

Combating Violence against Women and Girls |
ESCWA held an expert group meeting on 30-31 May at the UN-House, Beirut, to discuss and assess the key findings of the study "Policies to Empower Women in the Arab Region: Combating Violence against Women and Girls". ESCWA and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN) had prepared a study with support from the Norwegian Embassy in Lebanon. |

Ninth Session of ESCWA Committee on Energy Convenes in Kuwait |
The progress achieved in the field of Energy in the ESCWA member countries; the projects achieved and those planned to be implemented in member countries; and the adoption and implementation of renewable energy technologies in member countries were the main subjects of discussion by the ninth session of the ESCWA Committee on Energy, which was held at the Regency Hotel of Kuwait City on 12-13 June 2013 with the participation of representatives from member countries specialized in the field of Energy. |

HRH Prince Al Hassan Bin Talal Visits ESCWA Technology Centre |
His Royal Highness Prince Al Hassan Bin Talal paid a visit to the Amman-based ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) on 18 June 2013 . Prince Al Hassan was briefed by ETC’s Executive Director Fouad Mrad on the objectives of the Centre, which looks to strengthen capacities in establishing national and administrative systems; develop, transfer, adapt, implement, and define the appropriate technologies to the region; and improve the legal and trade frameworks of technology transfer. HRH was accompanied during his visit by his daughter HRH Princess Soumaya who presides over ETC’s board of governors. |

ESCWA and ALI Launch Green Production Help Desk |
In a press conference that gathered the board members of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), ESCWA officials, and representatives from media institutions, ESCWA and ALI launched on 27 June 2013 the “Green Production Help Desk (GHD)” project, which provides information and technical advisory services for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to comply with the objectives and principles of sustainable development. |
