Report on the Electronic Fora as part of the Portal “Towards an Inclusive Participatory Development in the ESCWA region” |
The ESCWA launched a portal called “Towards an inclusive Participatory Development in the ESCWA region”, to promote the participation of civil society and the exchange of ideas and experiences and to trigger interactive discussions. Three electronic fora were part of this portal as they aimed at promoting a dynamic civil society and tackled the following issues: “Participation in Public Policy processes”, “Media and Development” and “Social Integration: towards achieving inclusive participation in Western Asia”. |

Call for proposals on Promoting RE Investments in the Context of Climate Change Mitigation & SD |
UN-ESCWA is inviting applications for a call for proposals on Promoting Renewable Energy (RE) Investments in the Context of Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development. All institutions, civil societies and the private sector of member countries are invited to submit their proposals by 1 March 2016, to be included in the ESCWA RE investment projects pipeline. At least 10 projects will be retained as part of a capacity building project the Commission is implementing, which aims at enhancing RE investments in member countries in the context of climate change mitigation. |

Most countries in the ESCWA region see social policy as a basic element in achieving balanced human and economic development. A Standardization Framework to Promote an Enabling Environment for Arabic e-Services |
This study focuses on diverse standards used in developing e-services. It starts by mentioning the importance of e-services, and the role of standards in increasing its adoption. Then, it lists the main Standard Developing Organizations. Standards for specifying e-services are first described, especially those related to web service development, data encoding and exchange, electronic data interchange, and web service routing and addressing. The study also describes the main e-service security standards, main standard frameworks used for e-Business and e-Commerce applications. |

Trade facilitation plays a significant role in improving trade growth and competitiveness within the context of the global supply chain. This report sheds light on the requirements for establishing the Single Window system for trade facilitation. Having defined the Single Window system, the report provides comprehensive information on the compliance of national trade policies with trade treaties, trade law and trade regulations. It also analyses initiatives in ESCWA member countries to establish the Single Window system with a view to highlighting best practice across the region. |
