Recent protests in the region have revealed the social and political costs of high unemployment, underemployment and informal labour, particularly among youth, and the need to develop and implement policies that can successfully enhance labour and socioeconomic opportunities for all. With the aim to inform and support public intervention in the labour markets, this review of active labour market policies (ALMPs) in Arab countries considers and analyses the experience of the region in developing and implementing such policies, and examines the options, opportunities and constraints for the development of inclusive and efficient ALMPs.
