Guidelines for the Formulation and Implementation of ICT Strategy |
These guidelines aim to support efforts made in the ESCWA region to develop the usage of information and communications technology (ICT) in economic and social development and building the information society. They were prepared in order to assist decision makers and policy planners in the region in formulating ICT strategies that are appropriate for the needs and priorities of the countries of the region, and in implementing, following up and regularly assessing those strategies. |

2015 Situation Report on International Migration: Migration, Displacement and Development in a Changing Arab Region |
While international migration is one of the main factors driving economic and social change in the Arab region, the continuing displacement of populations occurring in several countries of the region remains one of the most pressing issues of today. In order to understand and make the most of the positive effects of migration – and to mitigate its potential downsides – a new approach, underpinned by good practice, human rights and a long-term development perspective, is needed. |

Methodological study on economic statistics: Islamic Finance in the National Accounts |
The study presents four research papers on how Islamic finance should be handled in the System of National Accounts 2008 (2008 SNA) and monetary statistics based on discussion and research papers presented in the workshop organized by ESCWA and UNSD on Islamic finance in national accounts. Research and best practices are needed beyond the financial assets and liabilities and their classification by type of financial instrument described within the framework of monetary and financial statistics, in line with the 2008 SNA. |

Al-Hakim took over his functions at the helm of ESCWA last May. |

Upon the invitation of the Beirut-based Carnegie Middle East Centre, a group of Arab thinkers discussed on 17 June 2014 the flagship report produced by ESCWA and entitled “Arab Integration: A 21st Century Development Imperative” at the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel, Beirut. Following an introduction by Senior Associate at the Carnegie Middle East Centre Maha Yahya, the meeting opened with the statements of United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf, and former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. |

Fourteen Iraqi Civil Servants Complete Training to Upgrade Management Skills |
Attending a two-week training course at UNESCWA, fourteen staff members from the Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation (MoPDC) were trained on management topics that included strategic planning, change management, leadership, time management. This training formed the third and final training module implemented by UNESCWA on behalf of UNDP as part of its comprehensive support project for the benefit of the MoPDC. The training was conducted together with the International Management and Training Institute -IMTI (www.ymca-leb.org.lb). |
