This compendium of briefs proposes policy options based on major trends, scenarios and interventions to sustainably respond to the Arab region’s food security challenges by highlighting key approaches to sustainable, context-based and climate-smart agricultural production interventions best suited to Arab States, outlining key options for optimizing engagement with world food markets that could be adapted to Arab countries and tackling issues of food loss and waste. |

The Expert Group Meeting on “Development Under Crisis Conditions” (Beirut, 27-28 June 2006) aimed at reaching a common understanding of the impact of conflict on socio-economic and political development in the region. It also sought to identify means of assisting member states in pursuing their Millennium Development Goals despite instability and political volatility. The meeting examined comparative experiences with development implementation under crisis conditions in three locales: Iraq, the Palestinian Territories, and Lebanon. |

Demographic Profile of the Arab Countries: Analysis of the Ageing Phenomenon |
The Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) drawn up at the Second World Assembly on Ageing in 2002 outlined a global agenda to deal with the issues of elderly populations. The Plan of Action on Ageing called for a new approach to policies and programmes for older persons in the wake of the demographic changes experienced in countries all over the world. Many regions of the world have witnessed a rapid increase in life expectancy and as a result a phenomenal growth of their populations during the second half of the last century. |
