Capacity Building Workshop to the National Women Machinery of Mauritania, on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and SCR 1325 |
The ministry of social affairs, children and families in Mauritania has prepared a concept note and draft plan on strategies and approaches on integrating gender perspective and empowering Mauritanian women. The plan was approved by the council of ministers in March 2015. The technical assistance will tap into the strategic plan of the ministry of social affairs in Mauritania and will assist in translating the two pillars of the plan into transformative strategy of engagement for the implementation of the 2030 agenda and the SDGs. |

16 Days of Activism to prevent violence against women |
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign (2016) has been conducted by ESCWA, IWSAW (LAU), ABAAD (Lebanese NGO) and UN-Women Regional Office for Arab States. The overall goal of the campaign is raising public awareness on gender-based violence and especially violence against women, which constitutes a striking phenomenon in the region. The campaign targeted different audiences with a view to reach out all sectors of the public. |

Sendai Framework Monitoring and National Disaster Loss Accounting System and Linkage of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction for Iraq |
The workshop, organized by ESCWA in partnership with UNISDR aims to strengthen national capacities in data collection, entry and analysis on Sendai Framework Monitor and Disaster Loss Accounting System (DesInventar) in order to prepare the national report for Iraq on Disaster Risk Reduction. The Workshop was attended by 16 senior experts from 11 different institutions and ministries (Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Oil, Ministry of Construction and Housing, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Electricity, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Interior). One of the participants from the Ministry of Environment was also the focal for climate change and vulnerability assessment. This group of experts represents part of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Committee of Iraq which is mandated to cope with Disaster Risk assessment, preparedness and recovery plans. |
