Improving transport and logistics leads to improved regional and international competitiveness and integration. The Arab region is set to benefit from the enhanced connectivity resulting from more efficient transport and logistics, which in turn will help to reduce the cost of trade. ESCWA has developed the Integrated Transport System in the Arab Mashreq (ITSAM) as a guiding vision for integrating various means of transport in order to boost trade between Arab countries and between the Arab region and the rest of the world.

ESCWA focuses on promoting simplified and standardized transport and logistics policies, laws and regulations and building capacity in member countries to that end. It is also helping them to develop regional transport infrastructure and transit corridors, and to join and implement international transport agreements. Road safety is another priority, and ESCWA promotes the implementation of national road safety management systems.
