Modelling and Forecasting

Informed policymaking rests in part on modelling and forecasting research, some of the results of which are included in the annual flagship publication, Survey of Economic and Social Development in the Arab Region. The survey looks at the region’s socioeconomic development assets, opportunities and constraints, as well as providing analysis on the economic outlook and forecasts for the region and individual countries.

ESCWA monitors macroeconomic indicators and policy in the region and carries out studies on issues such as economic reform, structural transformation, unemployment, monetary and exchange rate policy, and inflation. By staying abreast of global trends, it seeks ways to reduce the region’s external vulnerability, as well as assessing the capacity of member States to implement countercyclical fiscal and monetary policy.
