The transport sector has always benefited from progress in technology and the field's current exponential growth is no exception with a greatly unknown potential impact.
Decision-makers in the Arab countries should be aware of the importance and impact of technology and innovation so that they can better prepare for its introduction to and adoption by the transport sector to ensure better safety, accessibility, efficiency and sustainability. Governments should develop a suitable legal and regulatory framework to capitalize on the positive effects of technology.
During the Focus Group Meeting the draft ESCWA report on “Technology and innovation for the development of land transport in the Arab region” was discussed along with a proposed framework and recommendations.
