Under the auspices of Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) is holding its 24th Ministerial Session at the UN House, Beirut, on 10 and 11 May 2006.

Policy-makers from governmental institutions in charge of ICT policy development, particularly from least developed and post-conflict countries in the region, will attend a Workshop on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy Making in UNESCWA Member Countries.

The popular contestants of Star Academy 2006 will be visiting UNESCWA headquarters in Beirut at 2pm, Friday 5 May 2006.

The New Challenges Facing Western Asia and their Impact on UNESCWA Work is the one of the priorities listed on the agenda of the 24th Ministerial Session being held under the auspices of Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri at the UN House, Beirut, on 10-11 May 2006.

UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said the Arab youth are facing tremendous political, security, economic and social challenges that are driving them abroad in search for a better future.

Arab Ministers will discuss ways of facing youth unemployment in Western Asia in a roundtable to be held during the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session from 10 to 11 May 2006 at the UN House, Beirut, under the patronage of Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri.

Participants in the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session are due to discuss Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the UNESCWA Region based on a report prepared by UNESCWA in 2005 with the collaboration of several United Nations agencies in the region.

Winner of the 2006 Star Academy Joseph Attieh will address a large audience made up of prominent political, diplomatic, media and cultural figures at the UNESCO Palace, Beirut, tomorrow.
