Definition:
That part of the difference between a population value and an estimate thereof, derived from a random sample, which is due to the fact that only a sample of values is observed; as distinct from errors due to imperfect selection, bias in response or estimation, errors of observation and recording, etc.

التعريف:
الفارق بين القيم المتعلقة بالسكان وتقدير هذه القيم، في العينة العشوائية. يعود الخطأ عادة إلى مراقبة فقط عينة واحدة من مجموع القيم، وتختلف أخطاء المعاينة عن تلك النابعة عن عملية انتقاء غير سليمة أو انحراف في التقدير أو في الاستجابة، أو أخطاء في الملاحظة والتسجيل الخ.
ينجم عن مجموع أخطاء المعاينة في جميع العينات الممكنة ذات الحجم نفسه، توزيعًا للمعاينة في الإحصاءات المستخدمة، من أجل تقدير القيمة الأم
