Definition:
A derived statistic is obtained by an arithmetical observation from the primary observations. In this sense, almost every statistic is "derived". The term is mainly used to denote descriptive statistical quantities obtained from data which are primary. For example, community numbers are as elementary as geographical areas, but the population per square mile is derived.

يمكن الحصول على مقياس احصائي مشتق من خلال مشاهدة حسابية من المشاهدات الأولية. بالتالي فإن جميع الإحصاءات تقريبًا"مشتقة" في هذا المعنى. يستخدم المصطلح بشكل أساسيّ للإشارة إلى الكميات الإحصائية الوصفيّة المستقاة من بيانات أولية لجهة كونها مجرد اختصارات للمشاهدات، مثلاً أرقام المجتمع أولية تمامًا مثل المناطق الجغرافية، لكن عدد السكان في كل ميل مربع كمية مشتقة.
