Some time series exhibit seasonal movements which are regular in phase but vary in amplitude from year to year. The actual amplitude in any year, expressed as a proportion of the average amplitude taken over a long period is called the amplitude ratio. This ratio provides a measure of transition from natural seasonal variation.
