In the context of implementing the activities under  the project “Strengthening the Statistical Capacity of ESCWA Member Countries in Producing and Disseminating Short-term Economic Indicators for Sustainable Growth”, UN-ESCWA, in collaboration with the Statistical Center of the Gulf Cooperation Council States (GCC-Stat) and the National Center for Statistics and Information in the Sultanate of Oman (NCSI), organized a training workshop on turnover indices.

Under the auspices of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) "The Arab High-level Forum on World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" from 8 to 12 May 2017 at the UN House, Riyad El-Solh square, Beirut.

The report provides thorough documentation of the impact of five years of violence and war on Syria’s economy, and pays special attention to the plight of refugees and the extent to which Western sanctions have succeeded, or failed, in achieving their proclaimed objectives.
