United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim arrived this evening in Beirut to assume his responsibilities. He was received at the Rafik Hariri International Airport by Iraqi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Al Ameri, ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Khawla Mattar, ESCWA Secretary Karim Khalil and a number of officials in the Commission. Before his appointment, Alhakim was the Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Iraq to the United Nations in New York since May 2013.

The International Comparison Program (ICP) team at ESCWA’s Statistics Division has been working towards the regular production of Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs) through the implementation of a PPP production round in 2016.

“Open Government: emerging technologies for greater government transparency and accountability in the Arab Region,” was the title of the meeting that gathered 50 experts from 14 Arab countries in addition to Turkey and Denmark. The event was organized by ESCWA on 26 and 27 April 2017, under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of State for Administrative Reform in Lebanon Inaya Ezzeddine.
