UN Deputy Secretary-General in Beirut |
Beirut, 10 November 2010 (UN Information Services)-- UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha Rose Migiro arrived in Beirut this morning for a two-day visit. During her stay in the Lebanese capital, Migiro will take part in a regional meeting for coordination of the work of UN agencies and bodies in Arab countries. Migiro is scheduled to mee with Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, and with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who will attend the UN regional meeting at the UN House in Beirut and will deliver a statement there. |

Technical Assistance towards the development of a National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security for UAE |
The technical assistance is provided to the General Women's Union in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It aims at discussing the concrete steps towards the drafting of the national plan of action with the Union's staff members together with representatives of the governmental institutions concerned with the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (UNSCR 1325). |

Workshop on Conference Diplomacy |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) are jointly organizing a workshop on Conference Diplomacy on 25 January 2010 at the UN House in Beirut. The workshop is open to members of Permanent Missions accredited to Lebanon as well as representatives of ESCWA member states who will be participating in the 4th Meeting of the Technical Committee (26-27 January 2010). The objective of this workshop is to familiarize participants with the underlying concepts and notions of Conference Diplomacy. |

Many less well-known underground water reservoirs are also shared. Opportunities for negotiation and mutually beneficial use of water also exist in riparian countries, many based on principles of international law and resolutions on shared water. |

Executive Secretary Visits Former Head of State |
United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim paid on 2 August 2017 a courtesy visit to former Lebanese President Amin Gemayel in his office in Bikfaya. Al-Hakim took over his functions at the helm of ESCWA last May. The two officials discussed collaboration between ESCWA and Lebanon in addition to the economic and social cooperation activities carried out by the Commission in the region. They also discussed the National Agenda for the Future of Syria program initiated by ESCWA over three years ago. |
