While many efforts have been exerted to build the statistical capacities of ESCWA member countries, the use of statistics in policymaking requires further development, with special focus on tackling shortfalls in statistical processes and their role in public policy formulation and monitoring.

This study sets out a conceptual framework for developing the effective use of statistics in evidence-based policymaking at all levels, including monitoring and evaluating their implementation. It aims to establish guiding principles to assist experts in determining, preparing and documenting good practices in the field, in order to build an information knowledgebase on successful practices in the Arab region.
