Beirut, 28 April 2008 (United Nations Information Centre)-- The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Mr. Robert H. Serry, began today his first official visit to Lebanon as part of ongoing regional consultations. Lebanon is one of the countries in his area of responsibility for the Middle East peace process.
During his three-day visit, Mr. Serry will meet Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Fuad Siniora and other Lebanese officials. He will be accompanied to those meetings by the Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Marta Ruedas. In addition, he will meet with Mr. Abbas Zaki, the Representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Lebanon.
Mr. Serry visited UNIFIL today where he met the Force Commander, General Claudio Graziano. He is also scheduled to meet with other members of the UN family in Lebanon, including UNRWA.
