Mechanisms for Community-driven Interactive Arabic Multimedia content |
The ESCWA has prepared a guide concerning the implementation and development of e-portals for local communities and the most important requirements for the establishment, sustainability and modernization. This study identifies the role of portals in supporting the efforts made in the region to develop and use ICT in economic and social development and to build an information society. In addition, the portals allow the community to share experiences and enhance the role of society in participating in comprehensive and sustainable development. |

Management Training for the Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works |
The management training module is targeting a group of experts from the Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MoMPW). The Training forms a component of the UNDG Iraq Trust Fund financing a UNDP project to build the capacity of the Iraqi MoMPW. The training modules focus on management issues highlighting specialized topics relevant to each group of participants. The program of the modules also included field visits to various Lebanese private and public sector institutions to expose the Iraqi participants to the expertise and work methods of relevant Lebanese counterparts. |

Tax policy in Arab countries |
This paper advocates a sustainable long-term approach to ensure a social protection floor.3 In doing so, it follows the initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations, which are promoting a social protection floor in Arab countries. To fund such social spending, Governments have to build fiscal space. While there are different ways to do so, this paper focuses on revenue mobilization through taxation. The objective of the paper is to analyse the role of tax revenues within a fiscal space context in the Arab region. |

Launching of the National Campaign for Air Pollution Reduction in Lebanon through Efficient Use in Land Transportation |
Supported by ESCWA, the Lebanese Ministry of Environment and the UN Development Program (UNDP), IPT Energy Centre (IPTEC) launched today the “National Campaign for Air Pollution Reduction in Lebanon through Efficient Use in Land Transportation” . The event was held under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Environment Nazem Khoury at the Ministry premises. In addition to the minister, speakers included Roula Majdalani, ESCWA Director of Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD) and IPTEC President Toni Issa. |
