While many efforts have been exerted to build the statistical capacities of ESCWA member countries, the use of statistics in policymaking requires further development, with special focus on tackling shortfalls in statistical processes and their role in public policy formulation and monitoring. |

Energy Efficiency in Agriculture: the Poultry Section |
This document focuses on energy consumption and ways to support sustainability and improve efficiency of energy use in the poultry sector. It gives an overview of the poultry production cycle and outlines the main energy consumption indicators in the poultry sector, mainly specific energy consumption and the ratio of energy cost to the total production cost. The document sheds light on energy audits in the poultry sector as a preliminary step to the implementation of energy efficiency improvement measures in this sector. |

Arab Society: A Compendium of Social Statistics is the latest in a series of biennial compendia of the Statistics Division of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). Drawing on data provided mainly from national statistical offices, it focuses on issues of population, employment, housing conditions, education, health and culture. The eleventh issue of the Compendium pays special attention to education in ESCWA member countries. It presents education profiles for fourteen of the seventeen ESCWA member countries. |
