The Demographic Profile of the Arab Countries |
This paper examines the trends and levels of key demographic indicators for the Arab region, namely population size, growth rate, distribution, fertility and mortality levels, age structure and international migration. In doing so, the paper will mainly build on data from the World Population Prospects: The 2012 Revision, as well as other United Nations databases as relevant. The main purpose of the paper is to present policymakers and researches with a regional reference for selected demographic indicators and their key implications for development. |

ESCWA at Academia Lebanon 2014 |
Under the title “Partnering for Knowledge”, Academia Lebanon organized on 19-20 November 2014 the 24th International Convention on Higher Education at UNESCO palace in Beirut. An exhibition was held for schools and universities, which caught the attention of hundreds of students. This forum is the first of its kind to deal with the exchange of thoughts and methods, and the formulation of new initiatives and projects so as to integrate the regional education market in an increasingly challenging global environment. |

Urbanization and the Changing Character of the Arab City |

This study sheds light on the role of these major forces in shaping the character of the Arab city and presents the results of a comparative analysis of three case studies, namely, Amman, with its challenge of continuous growth; Beirut and its reconstruction predicament; and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, as the city of many cities. |
