Workshop on Development of National Gender Statistics Programme in Arab Countries |
The Statistics Division at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) is pleased to convene the second Workshop on Developing National Gender Statistics Programmes in the Arab Countries, from 19-21 May, 2015, in Istanbul, as a follow up to the first workshop, held in April 2014. The meeting is directed to senior and high level experts on gender statistics from selected Arab national statistical offices (NSOs) that finalized the development of their national gender statistics frameworks as per the recommendations of the first workshop in 2014. |

Review and Appraisal of Progress Made by Yemen in the Implementation of the New Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries During the Period 2001-2005 |
Yemen is the only least developed country (LDC) in the ESCWA region. This study is an expos of measures adopted by Yemen towards the implementation of the Plan of Action that was adopted in 2001 by the Third United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries. Using an analysis of major social and economic indicators, this study assesses the policies and steps undertaken by Yemen during the period 2001-2005, and contributes towards assisting Yemen in terms of procuring the necessary funding for its development strategy. |

Call for Project Proposals for the ESCWA Energy Efficiency Investment Projects Pipeline: The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in cooperation with the other UN Regional Commissions, is implementing a UN Development Account project on “Promoting Energy Efficiency Investments for Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development”. The project’s objective is capacity building for development of energy efficiency (EE) investment projects. |

Regional Cooperation between Countries in the Management of Shared Water Resources: Case Studies of Some Countries in the ESCWA Region |
Global demand for water is expected to increase by 50 per cent by the year 2025, while ESCWAs share of renewable water resources remains the lowest in the world. Despite the necessity for sound planning for the protection of shared water resources in ESCWA member countries, it is still difficult for neighbouring countries to negotiate a joint and integrated strategy for action. |

Electricity Efficiency in Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Electricity Systems |
