The Statistics Division at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) is pleased to convene the second Workshop on Developing National Gender Statistics Programmes in the Arab Countries, from 19-21 May, 2015, in Istanbul, as a follow up to the first workshop, held in April 2014.

The meeting is directed to senior and high level experts on gender statistics from selected Arab national statistical offices (NSOs) that finalized the development of their national gender statistics frameworks as per the recommendations of the first workshop in 2014. 

The workshop is expected to accomplish the following:

1. Exchange experience among the participating countries
2. Enhance the capacities of member countries to either start or strengthen an existing gender statistics programme through following specific steps and actions;
3. Develop draft national plans of action to improve the production of gender-sensitive indicators and sex-disaggregated data;
