The ESCWA Annual Report reviews the activities of the Commission in 2006, which were severely affected by the devastating war of aggression that was unleashed against Lebanon in that year. Despite the disruption caused by the war and its aftermath, the Commission has continued to efficiently deliver its services to member countries and was able to implement its work programme, realizing various achievements that have contributed to development efforts in the region and, in particular, reconstruction efforts in Lebanon.

On 19 January 2015, a press conference was held by ESCWA to launch the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 (WESP) report from the UN House in Beirut. WESP is produced at the beginning of each year by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the five UN regional commissions, ESCWA included, and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The sectoral statistics team participated at the UN-ECE Ad Hoc Group Meeting on ‎Supply of Fossil Fuels, Geneva, 10-11 November 2004, organized by the Sustainable ‎Energy Section of the Industrial Restructuring, Energy and Enterprise Development ‎Division at ECE. The participation was a follow-up on the recommendations on UNFC ‎Classification of energy reserves/resources that was held in Beirut in collaboration with ‎OPEC, UNSD and ECE in Beirut, 1 June 2004.


The expert group meeting aimed to present the findings of the revised Arab Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and the different sensitivity analysis scenarios in an attempt to enhance inter-country and temporal comparisons and provide more accurate poverty assessment and monitoring in the region.
