UN ESCWA is organizing an Expert Group Meeting on “Compilation and Analysis of Energy Statistics and Indicators” in cooperation with MEDSTAT (the regional statistical co-operation programme between the European Union and 10 Mediterranean partner countries), the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs’ Statistics Division (UNSD) from 3 to 5 March 2009 at the UN House, Beirut. Counting more than 30 delegates from National Statistical offices, Ministries of energy and regional organizations, the expert meeting will focus on the statistical methodologies for compilation of oil, gas, electricity and renewable energy according to the international standards, to prepare energy balances and accounts and derive energy indicators for evidence-based policy making. The meeting will improve the capacity of users and producers of energy statistics in compiling, analyzing and disseminating energy statistics and indicators as well as prepare energy balances and accounts. It will also increase the harmonization in producing and disseminating data on energy statistics regionally and internationally.
