In the context of completing the project on energy consumption in the transport sector project, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) organised a final meeting on launching the results of the survey for the three recipient countries, Egypt, Jordan and Palestine, between 23 and 24 July 2015 at the United Nations House, Beirut, Lebanon.

This study determines factors that have hindered growth, and ways to enhance economic development in each ESCWA member country.

Beirut, 23 July 2010 (UN Information Service) — The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is holding a Regional Workshop for Arab Parliaments on implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and ending violence against them, at the UN House in Beirut from 27 to 29 July.

This report tackles microfinance amidst conflict in the ESCWA region through a review of the main issues, such as the provision of microfinance services, the role of microfinance in development and the unique challenges faced by conflict-affected countries concerning microcredit and the development of financial markets. It also surveys microcredit providers in ESCWA conflict-affected countries, with an overview of the Arab World and a country level analysis of Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.
