Status of the Digital Arabic Content Industry in the Region |
The study consists of four sections and a preview, in which, an account of ESCWA contributions to the subject of digital Arabic content since 2003 is summarized. Section I deals with definition of the two major sectors which provide the feed for digitization: the media content and the creative sectors, with large portions of both sectors being digitized, or are available for digitization in the future. Section I also provides an overview of the global status of digital content. Section II addresses the economic aspects of the DAC market. |

Executive Secretary Meets Lebanese Minister of State for Planning and Deputy Transport Minister of Yemen |
Beirut, 24 August 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) -- ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim today visited Lebanese Minister of State for Planning, Michel Pharaon, at the top of a delegation comprising his Special Assistant Mohanad Al-Musawi, Chief of Economic Development and Poverty Section Khaled Abu-Ismail and Chief of Economic Governance and Planning Ahmed Kamaly. During the meeting, Pharaon stressed the importance of the presence of ESCWA in Beirut and its role at the service of the governments of the region. |

Settlement of Investment Disputes Between States and Investors |
In collaboration with the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lebanon, ESCWA held a National Workshop on settlement of investment disputes between states and investors during the period 25-29 November, 2013. The purpose of this workshop was to familiarize the participants with investment and its parties, the motivations and needs of the investing parties to insist on arbitration, and contracts for state-derived of Arbitration for settlement of investment disputes clause. |

This fact sheet addresses the institutional structure of selected energy subsectors, namely electricity, energy efficiency and renewable energy, the related policy and governance measures, and decision-making mechanisms in the Arab countries. It also looks at planning, efficiency and renewable energy issues, the degree of independence of regulatory bodies where they exist and State-sector reform. |
