The Commemoration of 2016 International Women's Day |
In observation of the international women’s day in 2016, ESCWA organized four events to commemorate the day under the global theme of “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it Up for Gender Equality”. The first event was held in partnership with the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at the Lebanese American University (LAU). The commemoration was held on Thursday 10th of March 2016 with the presence of social, academic, and representatives from the diplomatic crops, international organizations and civil society. |

UN Backs Sustainable Tourism in South Lebanon |
Beirut, 29 March 2012 (UN Information Service) — The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and the Union of Tyre Region Municipalities held today a workshop in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre to raise awareness about responsible eco-tourism in the framework of green economy and sustainable development. Participants included representatives from different municipalities and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in southern Lebanon. |
