Training Workshop on UNSCR 1325 and Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Sudan |
ESCWA Centre for women is conducting a training workshop in the Sudan in the framework of the implementation of the programme and technical support provided by ESCWA to support national mechanisms for ESCWA member States. The workshop raises awareness on the importance of resolution 1325, and women and peace and security agenda. It trains the participants on the development of implementation plans for the resolution including the review of the draft national plan of action, for feedback. |

Bridging the Urban Divide in the ESCWA Region: Towards Inclusive Cities |
This report sheds light on the urban divisions and development challenges faced by the countries of the ESCWA region. Specifically, it addresses the spatial dimension of the urban development vis-à-vis strategies aimed at inclusive urbanization, social equity and economic balance. With reference to selected case studies and examples, it presents an array of spatial development interventions taking place in the region; and highlights the ways they respond to urban fragmentation and inequalities, and their limitations. |

Towards Equity in Urban Social Policies : Social Guide for Urban Observatories |
The Social Development Division (SDD) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) organized the expert group meeting “Towards Equity in Urban Social Policies: Social Guide for Urban Observatories” under the programme of work of the Social Policy in the City Team. The main purpose of this meeting was to review the proposed framework for the Social Guide for Urban Observatories, with the following goals: (a) To explore expert opinion on the framework of indicators proposed in the Guide, their various components and ways of improving them. |

A Model with Heterogeneous Agents to Study Pension Reforms: A Theoretical Presentation and Application using Tunisian data |
ESCWA developed a quantitative model and tool to assess the viability of pension systems and applied Tunisian data as a case study. The model results for Tunisia reveal that pension reforms have differentiated impacts in terms of growth, fiscal sustainability and intergenerational distribution. The user-friendly interface developed for the model allows policy makers to easily simulate any combination of reforms and observe their fiscal and economic effect on the country. The model and interface can be customized and applied to UNESWA member countries. |

Technical Advisory Group on Demographic and Social Statistics |
The main goal of establishing of a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is to provide recommendations on strategies, as well as substantive and methodological guidelines for achieving goals in the area of population and social statistics. In its first meeting, the TAG focused on ensuring that all countries in the region have the capacity to deliver a core set of population and social indicators needed for the SDGs among other planning and monitoring purposes. |
