Participants included leading field actors, political activists, experts, representatives of governments, civil society organizations, research centers, academic institutions, media, UN agencies, regional and international organizations. |

Experts discuss Artificial Intelligence at ESCWA |
Beirut, 1 July 2019 (ESCWA)— United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rola Dashti today said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the future and a must to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). AI applications, with their ability to acquire information, analyze, and take prompt decisions, will uphold productivity and competitiveness of agricultural sectors, promote local industrial development, enhance industry efficiency and economic growth. |

Syrian Conflict Impact on Macro-economy and Millennium Development Goals |
On 10 September 2014, ESCWA launched from its Beirut headquarters a report entitled "The conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic: The impact at the Macroeconomic Level and the Obstacles on the Way to the Millennium Development Goals." A host of Arab and foreign diplomats and experts took part in the event. Also participating was the Editor-in-Chief of As Safir newspaper Talal Salman who delivered a keynote address. |

The objective of this work is to provide a brief overview of the main progress and challenges in the area of productive capacity in the LDCs that are member states of ESCWA: Mauritania, Sudan and Yemen. |

Regional Workshop on Innovative Technologies for Waste Management in the Arab Region-Paving the Way for the Transition to Green Economy |
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is currently leading efforts to strengthen national capacities in the Arab region on developing green production sectors. Since 2012 ESCWA established a network of Green Help Desks to increase awareness on the beneficial role of green technologies in six member countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Oman, Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco. These Helpdesks aim at supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) interested in acquiring and/or utilizing green processes. |
