The Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia Launched in Stockholm |
During the World Water Week held in Stockholm from 1 to 6 September 2013, ESCWA and the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) launched the Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia, the first effort led by the United Nations to comprehensively identify and assess the state of transboundary surface and groundwater resources in the Middle East. |

The economies of most Arab countries were less affected by the global financial crisis compared to other economies. Several factors contributed to the alleviation of the impact of the crisis on Arab countries, including the minimal dependency of non-oil producing economies, especially financial markets, on the global economy; and the flexibility acquired by major oil-producing countries from their cash reserves. This issue of the Annual Review examines the impact of the global financial crisis on the Arab economies. |

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), the Arab States Regional Office for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and the Swedish Institute in Alexandria held regional consultations on estimating the economic cost of violence against women, on 24 and 25 October 2017, at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, Arab Republic of Egypt. The regional consultations were organised for Arab National Women Machineries and National Statistics Offices in the Arab region. |

Kuwait to Host UN-ESCWA Meeting on International Goods Transport Facilitation |
Under the auspices of Kuwaiti Minister of Transport Maasouma Saleh Al Mubarak, UN-ESCWA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, is holding a national workshop on International Goods Transport Facilitation in Kuwait that will take place at the General Directorate of Customs, Shuweikh, on 29 November 2006. This meeting is part of the United Nations Development Account project “Capacity-Building through Cooperation in Developing Inter-Regional Land and Land-Cum-Sea Transport Linkages”. |
