Capacity-Building Workshop on “Good Agriculture Practices for Enhanced Energy Sustainability”

Al-Achaari, Maan, Jordan
Event Type:

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is working on a “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab region (REGEND)”. This regional initiative is a Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) funded project and aims to improve the livelihood, economic benefits, social inclusion and gender equality of Arab rural communities particularly marginalized groups, by addressing energy poverty, water scarcity and vulnerability to climate change and other natural resources challenges in three targeted countries, namely Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia.
In this context, ESCWA is organizing a Capacity-Building Workshop on “Good Agriculture Practices for Enhanced Energy Sustainability”, in partnership with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), to build the scientific and technical capacities of REGEND’s beneficiaries, on good agriculture practices related to agricultural management and techniques, pests and proper use of pesticides, drip irrigation, solar water pumping, solar disinfection, renewable energy and energy efficiency, sustainable energy and water-energy-food nexus, rural development and women empowerment, economic feasibility and entrepreneurial development, and general safety through a simplified scientific and distinctive approach integrating lectures, exercises, and practical training in the field.
The knowledge and skills acquired throughout the training, theoretically in the classroom and practically in the field, will enable the trainees to improve and expand their agricultural income-generating activities while becoming more aware about renewable energy and energy efficiency and their agricultural applications and benefits. This will go hand in hand with the small-scale renewable energy systems that will be provided by REGEND to some beneficiaries.
