2 January 2018	Executive Secretary Visits LAEC	Beirut, 29 December 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) -- United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim called for enhancing cooperation between the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC), affiliated to the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS), in many projects “as we can benefit from the expertise of the Commission in the implementation of common mechanisms and programs related to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to the issues of climate change and their impact on nature and people.”

2 January 2018	Lebanese atomic energy body supporting Global Goals, says Executive Secretary	During a visit to the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC), the Executive Secretary of ESCWA stressed the importance of their work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially those related to the environment. “We can benefit from the expertise of LAEC in the implementation of common mechanisms and programs related to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and on the issues of climate change and the impact on nature and people,” said ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim, speaking during a visit on 27 December.

8 January 2018	16 Days of Activism to prevent violence against women	The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign (2016) has been conducted by ESCWA, IWSAW (LAU), ABAAD (Lebanese NGO) and UN-Women Regional Office for Arab States. The overall goal of the campaign is raising public awareness on gender-based violence and especially violence against women, which constitutes a striking phenomenon in the region. The campaign targeted different audiences with a view to reach out all sectors of the public.
