Labour Markets and Labour Market Policy in the ESCWA Region |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) conducted an expert group meeting on labour markets and labour market policy on 22 March 2011 at the United Nations House in Beirut, Lebanon. In response to the challenges that ESCWA member countries face in providing adequate employment to a growing population in limited-capacity labour markets, the forthcoming Fourth Report on Integrated Social Policy will be dedicated to the topic of labour markets and labour market policy. |

The meeting was attended by a group of experts and specialists from Governments, civil society, regional academic and media institutions, and United Nations agencies. |

Disability in the Arab World: From Charity to Agency |
What is Disability?Persons with disabilities include those with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments. These impairments are sometimes visible to others, and other times hidden. Environmental barriers prevent persons with disabilities from performing day-to-day activities and fully participating in society. Accordingly, policy interventions should focus on resolving these barriers to facilitate the participation and integration of persons with disabilities in society. |
