11 December 2014	ESCWA Executive Secretary participates in the MDG summit	World leaders are gathering in New York between 20 and 22 September to review progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a range of targets to fight poverty, hunger and disease set in 2000. Over three days, more than 130 heads of state and government are assessing what has been achieved and what is needed to meet the goals by the 2015 deadline.

Entities and other civil society players, to discuss “Barriers Hindering Women’s Economic Participation in the ESCWA Region,” in an expert group meeting at the U.N. House, Beirut.
21 April 2015	Statistical Indicator and Data Dissemination in Western Asia Countries	Upon the request of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in Khartoum, the International Comparison Program (ICP) Regional Office for Western Asia (WA) region at ESCWA organized a workshop on “Statistical Indicator and Data Dissemination in Western Asia Countries,” on 17 and 18 February 2015, under the patronage of State Minister Jamal Ibrahim Mahmoud. The workshop was chaired by Head of CBS Yassin Al-Haj Abdin. The workshop aimed at raising awareness on the importance of the ICP and its results.

Who does it affect and why? Questions that UN-ESCWA and a quorum of regional experts, academics and activists will attempt to answer this week, on 1-2 August at an expert group meeting on “Social Exclusion in the ESCWA Region: Determinants and Indicators”, to be held at the UN House, Beirut.

14 March 2021	Virtual consultative working group meeting of the ESCWA statistical Committee on preparation for the 52nd session of the Statistical Committee	The Working Group aims to achieve the following goals: 1. To agree upon on the regional positions on the items for discussion and decision of the fifty-second session of the UN Statistical Commission to be transmitted on behalf of the Arab region; 2. To discuss any other issues related to the development of official statistics in the Arab region.
1 April 2020	New ESCWA brief: 8.3 million people will fall into poverty in the Arab region due to COVID-19	With today’s estimates, a total of 101.4 million people in the region would be classified as poor, and 52 million as undernourished.
