The American University of Beirut-affiliated Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs held a seminar on "The Nexus Approach: The Road to Water, Energy and Food Security in the Arab World" on 22 January 2014. ESCWA was represented by Regional Advisor for Environment and Water issues, Ralf Klingbeil, who delivered a presentation on "Food Security, Water Security, Improved Food Value Chains for Sustainable Socio-economic Development". |

UN Backs Sustainable Tourism in South Lebanon |
Beirut, 29 March 2012 (UN Information Service) — The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and the Union of Tyre Region Municipalities held today a workshop in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre to raise awareness about responsible eco-tourism in the framework of green economy and sustainable development. Participants included representatives from different municipalities and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in southern Lebanon. |

Expert Group Meets on Gender Mainstreaming |
On 29 and 30 March 2011, ESCWA held an Expert Group Meeting on “Mainstreaming Gender in the Plans and Programmes of the Ministries of Labour in Selected ESCWA Member Countries” at the UN House in Beirut. The two-day meeting was a follow-up to a workshop on gender mainstreaming and organizational change for participants from labour ministries and national women machineries in six member countries - Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan and Syria - that was organized in August 2010. |

ESCWA holds three workshops on integrated education in the Sudan |
Beirut-Khartoum, 28 February 2020--From 10 to 13 February, ESCWA held three workshops on integrated education in the Sudan, funded by the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation (AICS). The workshops were conducted in Khartoum and the Red Sea and attended by administrators and high-level officials from the Ministry of Education, as well as data collectors. |

Further Support to the National Agenda for the Future of Syria Programme |
On 28 January 2016, the Centre for Syrian Studies at the University of Saint Andrews, the United Kingdom, and ESCWA joined hands to sign a letter of understanding (LOU) on the bilateral cooperation concerning the National Agenda for the Future of Syria (NAFS) programme launched by ESCWA in 2012. |

On 25-28 January 2015, the Arab Monetary Fund, based in Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), hosted a regional workshop on the "Compilation of Trade in Services Statistics for the Arab Countries" organized by ESCWA in cooperation with the Economic Policy Institute of the Arab Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization, and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). |
