Beirut, 11 February 2019 (Communication and Information Unit)--The United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Ms. Rola Dashti, today met with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Mr. Gebran Bassil.
 
Discussions tackled challenges facing the region in general and Lebanon in particular, and how ESCWA can support Lebanon in key areas such as power, water, and energy. In addition, the two officials discussed major economic and social issues.
 
Mr. Bassil welcomed the appointment of Ms. Dashti at the helm of the regional commission given the longstanding experience she has in sustainable development and the deep knowledge of the challenges facing Lebanon and the region. He expressed his government’s support to ESCWA and to the benefit it brings to the region.
