The Expert Group Meeting on “Development Under Crisis Conditions” (Beirut, 27-28 June 2006) aimed at reaching a common understanding of the impact of conflict on socio-economic and political development in the region. It also sought to identify means of assisting member states in pursuing their Millennium Development Goals despite instability and political volatility. The meeting examined comparative experiences with development implementation under crisis conditions in three locales: Iraq, the Palestinian Territories, and Lebanon. |

The International Comparison Program (ICP) team at ESCWA’s has been exploring new techniques to enhance price statistics in the region by using technology and Big Data tools as a non-traditional data collection method complementing traditional data collection. This initiative aims to improve data quality, raise the frequency of data collection, reduce field visits and increase work efficiency by ensuring regular automated extraction of price data from online outlets for both CPI and ICP purposes. |

This technical meeting seeks to bring together a small group of professionals to discuss conceptual and technical issues associated with the assessment of vital registration processes and data for Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon. The purpose of this meeting is to identify conceptual/definitional issues and measurement challenges associated with vital registration assessment of the Syrian refugee population in Jordan and Lebanon, and to develop a modest plan for initial pilot testing of different large-scale data collection approaches. |

In response to the recommendations of the Second High-Level Joint Committee for water and agriculture that was held on 19 October 2020, the Technical Secretariat of the Joint Arab Ministerial Council for Water and Agriculture (Technical Secretariat of the AMWC and AOAD) organized with ESCWA and FAO the Expert Meeting to review and discuss the draft executive plan to activate the Cairo Declaration 2019 for joint coordination between the agricultural and water sectors. |
