Workshop on Development of National Gender Statistics Programme in Arab Countries |
The Statistics Division at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) is pleased to convene the second Workshop on Developing National Gender Statistics Programmes in the Arab Countries, from 19-21 May, 2015, in Istanbul, as a follow up to the first workshop, held in April 2014. The meeting is directed to senior and high level experts on gender statistics from selected Arab national statistical offices (NSOs) that finalized the development of their national gender statistics frameworks as per the recommendations of the first workshop in 2014. |

Workshop on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics for ESCWA region |
The civil registration system is considered the best source for generating accurate, reliable and timely vital statistics. Not all national civil registration systems are fully in place in terms of coverage of vital events, effectiveness and their linkage with national statistical systems, thus preventing their use for producing reliable vital statistics. Consequently, alternative data sources such as censuses and sample surveys are then used to obtain these statistics. |

Expert Group Meeting on Promotion of Digital Arabic Content (DAC) |
As a follow-up on the Western Asia Preparatory Conference for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) that was held in Beirut from 4 to 6 February 2003, and culminated with the Beirut Declaration, and within the regional preparatory activities for the first phase of the Summit, to be held in December 2003, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing an Expert Group Meeting on “Promotion of Digital Arabic Content (DAC)” that will take place from 3 to 5 June 2003 at the UN-House, Beirut, Lebanon. |
