Implementing Institutional Gaps Assessment Methodology in Iraq (at Al-Hamdania district and Nineveh Governorate): Phase II |
This workshop will review the outcome of the assessment methodology based on the amended questionnaire, and the challenges and priorities that emerged in the deliberations of the first workshop; It will incorporate the Governorate institutions in the Gaps Assessment Process for a more accurate evaluation; It will evaluate the process that led to the Al-Hamdania district’s strategic plan of 2019-2020, against the strategic plans developed at the Governorate level and at the Federal level with the objective of reviewing actual coordination and complementarity among the different governance levels; and select trainers from among the participants to train them later in applying the institutional gaps assessment methodology in the Al-Anbar and Saladin governorates.

Workshop on “Good food manufacturing and hygiene practices and hygiene requirements for food storage” |
Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” Project, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), and the Arab Federation for Food Industries (AFFI), is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Good food manufacturing and hygiene practices and hygiene requirements for food storage”. |

Sendai Framework Monitoring and National Disaster Loss Accounting System and Linkage of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction for Iraq |
The workshop, organized by ESCWA in partnership with UNISDR aims to strengthen national capacities in data collection, entry and analysis on Sendai Framework Monitor and Disaster Loss Accounting System (DesInventar) in order to prepare the national report for Iraq on Disaster Risk Reduction. The Workshop was attended by 16 senior experts from 11 different institutions and ministries (Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Oil, Ministry of Construction and Housing, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Electricity, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Interior). One of the participants from the Ministry of Environment was also the focal for climate change and vulnerability assessment. This group of experts represents part of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Committee of Iraq which is mandated to cope with Disaster Risk assessment, preparedness and recovery plans. |

In some of the ESCWA Member Countries, a large percentage of the population lives in rural communities (according to the World Urbanization Prospects: The 2007 Revision, http://www.un.org/esa/population/publications/wup2007/2007wup.htm, these rural communities accounted for 68% in Yemen, 57% in Egypt and 55% in Sudan…). |

Within the framework of the project on advancing digital cooperation and development Arab States Action Programme, ESCWA is organizing the Regional Expert Meeting on “National Digital Development Reviews – Review of the Methodology and Guiding Template”, via internet. The meeting will gather the Arab countries that participated in the first round of the National Digital Development Reviews (NDDRs) for 2019 and countries wishing to participate in the 2021 round. |

The Preparatory Meeting for The Regional Workshop on the Exchange of Experiences on the Collection and Dissemination of Road and Railway Transport Statistics: Statistics on The Volume of Road Traffic (Vehicle-Kilometer) was held on 29 September 2020 via TEAMS: from 11:00 to 13:00hours, Beirut time. Several representatives of national statistical offices (NSOs) from ESCWA member states as well as representatives from line ministries and other related entities took part in meeting. |
