2014

The efforts exerted by countries worldwide to achieve knowledge societies were often associated with different technology initiatives. Given the opportunities granted by those initiatives to enhance government transparency and public participation in policymaking and to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and youth employment, the main theme of this issue was dedicated to open technology initiatives. It describes the various technological fields where the openness paradigm is used. Then, it addresses the open data and open government initiatives in the Arab countries, and presents the concept of open government and its role in achieving good governance.

This issue also includes a description of the most important outputs of the World Summit on the Information Society WSIS+10. It describes some contemporary computing concepts such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing and its application opportunities in the Arab region and a five step model for the application of mobile government. It moreover contains a summary of the 2014 Global Information Technology Report, and the Final WSIS Targets Review Report.
