يتبع للإدارة المركزية للإحصاء في وزارة التخطيط. في 9 يونيو 2008 صدر المرسوم الأميري رقم 134 بتسمية وزير الدولة لشئون الإسكان ووزير الدولة لشؤون التنمية بالإشراف على الإدارة المركزية للإحصاء. وقد تم إقرار هيكل تنظيمي مستقل ومتكامل للإدارة المركزية للإحصاء بتاريخ 5/5/2010 وبناءً عليه صدرت القرارات التالية : القرار الوزاري رقم 58 لسنة 2010 بشأن الاختصاصات التفصيلية لقطاع شئون العمل الإحصائي.
